Well Told with Carole Dewerre, founder of Cocooning Love
Carole grew up in family of entrepreneurs where passion and challenges were daily fare.
She inherited this passion and was motivated to follow a business start-up program. With a partner, Carole then opened her first business, a longboard and clothing boutique. Already at that time, she was committed to buying local and supported Quebec suppliers.
After two years in business, she had the opportunity for a solo project, the relaunch of a beauty salon that was in trouble. Carole immediately noticed that the products offered there were expensive, made with lots of chemicals, and presented in packaging that was anything but eco-friendly. This direct contact with her clientele opened her eyes to what was popular. That’s when Cocooning Love started to take shape in her mind.
For a limited time, we are partnering with Cocooning Love to offer you a free gift of their Hydrating Hair Mask with any purchase of $40 or more!
Where did your entrepreneurial spirit come from?
I think I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs who taught me a lot! I didn’t like school; I needed more. I was always looking for something until I understood that it was up to me to create my dream job. At 20, I had my first skateboard company in Québec City. Cocooning Love is my third business. I love challenges; that’s what stimulates me and I think that’s what an entrepreneur’s life is all about.
What motivated you to create Cocooning Love? Did you notice a need for something new or more honest in the market?
My father has been making natural foot care products since I was 14. He really opened my eyes about cosmetics. Just because something is expensive doesn’t mean that it’s good! When I bought the beauty salon, I noticed that the products for sale were not very affordable, eco-friendly, or natural. I was already using natural products, but to be honest, I didn’t really like their scents and found most of the products were not very visually appealing. In my salon, I started thinking about a line of cosmetics that would be more affordable, eco-friendly and natural. I had already made cuticle oil with my salon’s name. I wanted products that would be accessible to everyone, natural and as eco-friendly as possible. Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it has to be brown and smell like patchouli! Two years later, the idea of Cocooning Love was born.
If you had the chance to share a piece of advice with your younger self, or with a woman considering becoming an entrepreneur, what would you say?
Be very confident! Listen to yourself and go for it! Don’t worry too much about what other people think. Eliminate the toxic people in your entourage.
Finally, what helps you stay healthy these days?
I walk a lot! I have a new little dog, Didier-Valentin, who keeps my boyfriend and me very busy at the moment! I take more time for myself now than I used to.
